Going Green

Feb 10, 2021

Even though it is our company colour, it’s not easy being green. Regardless, Towers are committed to reducing our impact on the environment as far as possible.

It’s our belief that as part of our company approach to social responsibility it’s as important to protect our surroundings as it is to support our community. We think that everything we use should be held to the reduce, reuse, and recycle standard. Here are some of the ways our company demonstrates our commitments to environmental responsibility.

1. Fleet of Hybrid vehicles

We appreciate that traveling up and down the UK can rack up a significant carbon footprint; that’s why we’re deploying a fleet of hybrid cars to offset our traffic emissions. Our team of virtual tour operators will be driving brand new Peugeot 3008 models which self-charge even on the road. In electric mode, the 3008 emits 0g of carbon performing far more efficiently than the average car in the UK which emits 141.8g per kilometer.

2. Waste Disposal and Recycling

It’s estimated that in the UK, 75% of people recycle. However, while this figure seems rosy, many do not know what they can recycle or whether they recycle properly. Even though eco-initiatives are increasingly popular in workplaces, only half of British workplaces have a recycling plan and facilities. This isn’t enough. In our kitchens and across our offices, staff have access to various, categorised bins to ensure all recycling can not be done, but done properly.

3. Paperless Objectives

Paper accounts for a large portion of UK waste. It is estimated that the average office employee prints 10,000 sheets of paper per year. Of these 10,000 sheets, it is thought that ¾ end up in the waste stream. When secure digital filing systems are so readily available, the waste seems inexcusable. In order to reduce our own paper waste, our files are shareable on Google Teams meaning there is little need for printing and paper waste. All towers branches are aiming to go paperless by 2023.

4. Preserving Green Land

So far, TVT has bought a patch of green land in Wales in order to protect it from building projects. It is our hope that as we grow, we can purchase more land to neutralize our carbon emissions as far as possible.

We hope to be able to expand our green activities as we continue to grow as a company – we would love to hear your suggestions and green success stories.
